An early California plein-air painter, a groundbreaking feminist artist and a hometown boy who has become an international artist will be the subjects of three retrospective exhibitions at the Crocker Art Museum in 2012.

Edgar Payne's "Sunset, Canyon de Chelly" from 1916 will be part of the Payne retrospective show at the Crocker, opening Feb. 11.

The Judy Chicago exhibit opening March 3 will include "Imprisoned Tree," from 1996.

Mel Ramos' "The Phantom Lady" is from 1963. It will be included in "Mel Ramos: 50 Years of Superheroes, Nudes, and Other Pop Delights," opening June 2.
